Project Description

HIGHWAY 531 AS A CATALYST FOR URBAN DEVELOPMENT

The section of Highway 531 constitutes a main traffic route at the seam between Ra`anana and Herzliya, connecting the Coastal and Cross-Israel Highways to longitudinal Highways 2, 4 and 20. The section improves access for residents of nearby settlements, thus in effect contributing to their urban development.

Along a 14 km. route Ashtrom has constructed road bridges, roadways, interchanges, water drainage reservoirs, footbridges, vehicle underpasses, agricultural overpasses, a railway tunnel and a double-track rail alignment. Among the works undertaken were diversion and doubling of the coastal railway line, distancing it from nearby built-up areas and connecting it to the new Sharon railway.

The operations included earthworks and roadlaying, the erection of retaining and acoustic walls, rerouting of electrical power, sewage and communications infrastructures, drainage work and laying of Mekorot (water company) lines, as well as horticulture, irrigation and landscaping work.
